comcast called me last week about nonpayment (yeah, i know, i know). i called them back. spoke to a nice lady. she told me that my bill was $164.xx and the past due was $xx.xx. i told her that i was moving so i would go ahead
and pay the whole thing on Friday 9/23. she said ok. so i sent a
payment thru bofa for $165 even. i called comcast today to tell them
to cancel my service. they tell me that my bill is $262.49. i say
“doesn’t that include next month?”. the lady goes “oh yeah, ok”. she
does some math. says that in october i was going to be billed $90.78.
so 262.49-90.78= $171.71. i told her that the lady i spoke with last
week told me that my bill was $164.xx and that i just paid $165. she
says they didn’t get the 165 yet, but even if they do, i still owe
them $6.71. i ask why. she tells me becaues that’s how the math works.
i tell her someone must be mistaken. then she tries to tell me that
its because i’m having the cable turned off on the first so the 6.71
is for that 1 day into the next billing cycle. i say “fine, turn it
off on friday”. she says “its only going to save you a few cents”. i
tell her that one of us must be confused. we go back and forth a bit
more. i say “i’ll call you back tomorrow when you’ve received my
payment and can let the computer do the math.”

Update: I got a letter in the mail yesterday from Comcast, telling me that my cable had been turned off on 9/29, 2 days before my voluntary disconnection for our move on 10/01. The balance on the disconnection was $292. Good thing I read it while I was in the bathroom. Didn’t have to go far to drop it in the trash.

Last Update: while i was in the bahamas last weekend, i got a voicemail from comcast asking me to call them back to discuss an important matter. i didn’t. for the next week, every morning, i would get a phone call from an 866 number. if i answered, there was only dead air and then the call would hang up. if i didn’t answer it, the call did not leave a voicemail. after a week, i did a reverse lookup on the number. turns out, surprise surprise, its comcast. so i call them back. an automated message tells me that i owe $97.49 and encourages me to press 3 to dispute, which i did. i explained to the gentleman the deal – i moved, i called and told you all that i was moving, if you didn’t turn the shit off, that’s on you. of course, it was out of his hands and urged me to call yet another number, which i did. the very nice Comcast employee lady that i spoke to, told me that my bill was $35.41. i stopped her. told her that i was confused. she paused, then told me that i owed $1.82. i’ve learned that there’s a time to speak, and a time to be silent. i kept quiet. after a few seconds she goes “hold on. ok, i’ve credited your account $1.82. your balance is now 0. have a good day.” thanks lady. hope i don’t have to talk to you again in 2 weeks.

I think it’s because Black men are tired of their masculinity scaring people. I find it to be a reaction against the fear many people have of strong, muscular, African American men.

After a while, people get tired of others freaking out when they enter an elevator.

I think she’s referring to things that would be determined as “soft” years ago like carefully manicured braids in all different styles and patterns that was only typical of females until recently. Corn rows are a staple in our community but they have gone from tough looking to girlymanlike.

i’d take my file box and that’s about it. i keep my birth certificate and passport inside, so at least i’d have some type of identification when i got wherever i was going. also, since that’ll take about 30 seconds, i’d get my wallet. honestly, for me, that’s all i need out of my current house.

Birth certificate, diploma, Computer tower.

Leaving my books would suck though.

i’d take my laptop. it has my pics, my magazine files and my resume… as well as my music and all of my confidential info.

[...] I guess Ambra Nykola’s mention of my 5 minute question is flattering in an offhanded unintentional soft of way. I’m lifting this idea from another blogger whose name escapes me right now because I am a lazy websurfer and I don’t write things down, nor do I discipline myself to use “favorites,” or any of the great web tools out there for keeping track of the blogs you read. I’d take my Grandma’s urn, my photo album, my briefcase which includes totaly useless paperwork that for some reason I feel I can’t live without, my laptop, and the heat—the heat will be the first thing I grab in any situation, all I need in this life of sin…
